Featured Recipes, Cookbooks, EYBD Previews, Giveaways and More!
May 3, 2019 by JennyEat Your Books (EYB) is a website for people who love cookbooks and want to make better use of the great recipes from those books. With EYB, a member can create their own personal Bookshelf and quickly find recipes from their cookbooks, food magazines, food blogs, personal recipe clippings, and favorite online recipes. New cookbooks (as well as older titles) are indexed every week. For more information on how we can help you utilize your cookbook collection, please see our Help pages.
This week’s tutorial will cover using EYB on your mobile devices. I confess I use EYB on my phone but have never set up an EYB icon. Now that I have, I wonder why I did not do it sooner. One touch and EYB loads – what was I thinking? There are step-by-step instructions at the links below for whatever device you may have. It takes thirty seconds!
While EYB has resourceful Help pages, as a new member you may not have had time to explore. Below I’ve shared the steps from the Help pages for adding books as well as filtering results.
Mobile – add books to your Bookshelf and search
When you are using Eat Your Books, the site will recognize the type of device (desktop, laptop, tablet, mobile) and therefore the size of the screen you are using and adjust the layout accordingly. Once you have used EYB on one type of device you should find it easy to use it on any other. The only thing that changes is the layout of the screen and the amount of information you can see at one time.
In this section we go over a few of the basics to help you get started. You are seeing a view of the Library/Books.
- To add a book to your Bookshelf just click on the +Bookshelf button. Other icons displaying show the number of member Bookshelves this book is on, the number of Notes for this book and a video, if available.
- Some information about the book remains hidden until you click on the down arrow to expand.
- To move around the site you can either click on the headings “Home”, “My Bookshelf”, or “Library” or select from the drop down Menu.
- To narrow down your searches – select the Filter link.
- To “Only Show” certain types of books check/tick on the relevant section.
- To “Filter By” one of the EYB categories, expand out any section and check/tick the item you want to filter by. Then click Filter (4) to see your results.
Mobile – using the filters to search for a recipe
- Enter your search term in the search box. To narrow down your search add several words – they can be an author name, ingredients, type of dish, etc.
- Or use the Filters to narrow down your search results more precisely, with these options:
- Check/tick one of the “Only Show” filters.
- Select options from categories: Ingredients, Recipe Types, Nutrition, Courses, Occasions and Ethnicity. Click filter (2) to see your results.
- Your recipe results will show some details about the recipe, click on the down arrow to expand to see more information.
- You can cancel your search filters by clicking on the x or exclude all recipes that match this criteria by clicking on the + sign.
In each weekly roundup we will bring you additional information on other features here at EYB. If you have any questions, please email us at info@eatyourbooks.com and we will be happy to help!
