The best cookbooks of 2018 by the experts

Who knows cookbooks better than the owners of specialist cookbook stores? They stock and sell thousands of cookbooks and because their stores are focused on food and drink books, they are true experts. They read the books, cook from them and then share their knowledge with their customers. When shopping for cookbook gifts this holiday season, please think about supporting your local bookstore.

We asked for favorite cookbooks of 2018 lists from the cookbook stores that feature in our directory. Some of the books listed were published in 2017 in the USA but in 2018 in the bookstore’s country. All these lists will be included in our Best of the Best list, which is being unveiled shortly.

Would I be correct in thinking that a certain U.K cookbook shop is asked to participate but refuses/ignores the request?

  • Jane  on  December 21, 2018

That is correct. I sent 4 emails asking for their list but they never reply. It's a shame since they are the only cookbook store in the UK so it would be great to have their input – both for their picks for best cookbooks and their top sellers of the year, which I do in January. If you are a customer there perhaps you could ask them why they don't contribute. You can see most of the other cookbook stores around the world do.

Being from the west, my preference for books are certainly closer to western states’ bookstore owners.

Appreciate this type of list. Thank you for taking the time to gather the input from these premiere bookstores around the world.

This is how I find out that the Cook's Bookshop in Edinburgh must have closed. I remember walking in there and finding, to my surprise and delight, Clarissa Dickson Wright working. Last time I saw her was at said London bookshop, who (apparently) had fired her. Memories!

    Yes, love your lists.
