You are going to love EYB Digital

Just over three months ago, we launched  and  a feature which allows you to view a selection of pages from a cookbook – including photographs, illustrations, and complete recipes – with just a click.. Since the launch, we now have 161 titles available for preview and we are adding more each week. To continue our efforts to bring our members cutting edge features, we are pleased to introduce – Eat Your Books Digital (EYBD).

What is Eat Your Books Digital?

The EYBD platform will provide digital access to the complete book when a member has pre-ordered a hard copy of the title before release date (or as noted below during a book tour). You do not need to be a paid member to access this feature and EYBD books are in addition to the 5-book limit for Free memberships.

The EYBD book is a conversion of the book to HTML much like our EYB Book Previews. The EYBD complete book will not be available on the site until publication date and will require proof of purchase to access the book. It cannot be copied, downloaded, printed or saved.

Once our platform goes live, we will provide details on how to upload proof of purchase (scan, screenshot or photo of receipt, online order, etc). The book and the access button will be added to the member’s Bookshelf, though the book index and the EYBD book are not available until publication date.

For book tour events, EYB will supply bookmarks with sign-up details to the bookstores. Purchasers of the books at these events will get the digital book bundled as well.

Features 

For the first time you will have access to the full EYBD cookbook wherever you can access EYB – on vacation, at work, in the grocery store, etc. In addition to the digital book, all the features of EYB will be included in the access, at no cost to the book purchaser.

•            Recipe ratings and reviews
•            Photo upload (personal photos of dishes cooked)
•            Shopping lists

Currently, we have the following titles slated for EYBD this year (my Cookbooktober post shares more details about these titles). We are adding more cookbooks as we go forward. Please note, if you have already pre-ordered one of these books, you still qualify for a EYBD copy and will follow the same procedures mentioned above.

Updated July 25th, 2018 to include Pie Squared, Cooking in Color and Bourke Street Bakery: All Things Sweet.

You will note that Amanda Wilbank’s debut cookbook Southern Baked is slated for an August 7th release date.  This means members have a month to pre-order this title to receive the EYBD feature.

Southern Baked is a celebration of life through pie, but not just any pie, Southern pies including all the fixings to go along with. Amanda is the owner of The Southern Baked Pie Company in Georgia and knows pie! A few examples of recipes include Chicken dumpling pie, Roma tomato tart, and Lemon chess pie. Dust off your rolling pin, pre-order this book now and any others that catch your eye. 

I’ll be providing more information on these titles as we go forward as well as sharing updates when new cookbook titles are available.

    This is a brilliant idea! A bonus digital book will be handy to have when travelling to Cook from. As always EYB is very progressive and forward thinking!

    What a fantastic idea. I love that I will be able to access anywhere especially at the grocery store. EYB has made it so easy for us home cooks to use our cookbooks and to eat at home more often.

    I love this. It seems I sit forever in some doctor's office dealing with my own maladies or those of my brother who was seriously injured in an accident last summer. I look at the books (cookbooks or food memoirs always) that have on my phone or Kindle. I know I will pre-order books I plan to get anyway because I now will have access to them before the physical book is in my grubby hands,

    What a great idea! This is a wonderful people for those of us who cook for friends and family when we travel. It's also a great incentive for people to pre-order, so it benefits consumers and authors. Another EYB win!

    Does this mean the digital copy I may have available on my computer (due to pre-purchase) will no longer be available, i.e., "…cannot be…saved" on my device but will be accessible as a complete digital via my EYB account? IOW I will be reading a complete book on the EYB Cloud, before publication date if pre-purchased, and then the complete digital book will still be available through EYB Cloud after publication? Can I make any notes, underlines, etc. on the digital after it becomes a "real book"?

    rivergait – you do not get to download the book to your computer – it is only accessible through EYB – like the Book Previews are – the digital copy is an HTML just like the Previews – you can't make notes on the digital copy itself but you can add notes to your bookshelf.     This is going to be huge! I cannot tell you how many times I have had to call home to ask for shopping lists I've forgotten or brought my books places to peruse. I've already used the EYB Preview, which is excellent for finding more books I didn't realize I needed – and I am using my books with way more frequency than ever before. I'll always be a loyal hard copy purchaser, but love this on the go option, too. Seriously – High 5 for enabling my cookbook love that much more.

    Are there plans underway to connect with Amazon for a receipt list? It would be amazing to click the link and have EYB know what cookbooks Ive putchased (electronic and hardback). And once you know what Ive purchased, to be able to link to the recipe, not just the ingredient list.

    I have a small collection of hard copy cookbooks and a much larger collection of Kindle cookbooks. So, for me, seeeing the cookbooks full text on EYB is less important. What I want most is a portal to EYB that doesn’t require me to use a browser. If this does that, than it sounds great!

    EYBD sounds far too restrictive and fussy to me. You can't print or even save the recipes in any way? Why bother with it at all? Better to just get the book out of your local library!

    The purpose is to have your recipes with you when you travel via EYB, at the market etc. The books will be indexed of course. It's free if you buy the book for certain titles – but of course, you don't have to submit a receipt if you don't want the access.

    Would love to see Gina's Homolka's (SkinnyTaste) new release "One and Done". It's slated for an early October release. I will put it on my Christmas list but I would definitely preorder that one if I could have access to a digital copy when I go to our vacation home!
