The “most popular” brownie recipe on the internet, EYBD Previews and more

This morning I saw an article in my Google recommendations: a review of a recipe from the Kitchn: “I Tried the Most Popular Brownie Recipe on the Internet — And It’s as Good as Promised“. The recipe comes from Jeanine Donofrio of the Love and Lemons blog and author of several cookbooks. The review was of the Best homemade brownies. Update: I failed to acknowledge that this recipe comes from Michelle Lopez’ Weeknight Baking: Recipes to Fit Your Schedule (a fantastic book). Thanks to Member gamulholland for the reminder.

The word “best” is subjective at best but these brownies do look fantastic. I think this recipe will go on my list of “baking intentions”. I wrote about my intentions in several posts here: Even more delicious things I am adding to my list of baking intentions; This week: The best of baking intentions, recently indexed books, recipes, EYBD Previews and giveaways; and The best of (baking) intentions. That list keeps growing and growing – at this rate I will need to live to reach an age of biblical proportions.

Have you tried this brownie recipe? If so, let me know in the comments your thoughts and if you have a “best brownie” recipe share that recipe as well.

This amazing Alice Medrich brownie recipe using an ice bath is the one I’ve been making for years:

Don’t forget to source your chocolate to make sure it’s not high in lead or cadmium. So many brands are, even organic ones.

My gold standard are Chuck’s Chocolate Brownies from Bonnie Stern’s Friday Night Dinners. 2nd choice are the Whitewater Brownies from the 1st Whitewater book. And I’ve also had good reviews from Ina’s Outrageous Brownies. Around 3 years ago, I made a serious commitment to my books so I seldom, if ever, stray onto the internet for recipes…but I do hit google when looking for factual cooking info.

My go-to brownie recipe is Nick Malgieri’s Supernatural brownies which I make even better by streaking the top with salted caramel sauce (Felicity Cloake’s recipe). But I probably need to try the Love and Lemons recipe to see how they compare.

When I see the words “best” or “most popular” in relation to brownies, I immediately put the recipe on my must-bake list. Will report back soon, I hope. I do not have a go-to brownie recipe, but through extensive research have found several contenders: Sarah Kieffer’s, Jessie Sheehan’s from Snackable Bakes, Wednesday Night Brownies from Midwest Made, Robert’s Absolute Best Brownies from Ready for Dessert, Ina’s Outrageous Brownies…OK, quite a list. I see no reason not to keep trying new recipes.

Quick FYI: Jeanine Donofrio says she got the recipe from Michelle Lopez’s book Weeknight Baking. It looks like she got permission from the author. Just in case you’d want to link to the book it came from. 🙂

Here you go — Michelle Lopez, Weeknight Baking. And the EYB user’s comment on the brownies (that the instructions to “wait until cool before eating” was the work of a sadist) cracked me up. 🙂
