Le Creuset for the holidays; assistants to the celebrity chefs making it big, EYBD Previews, recipes and more

Le Creuset is always bringing new and exciting colors and designs to their product line. Recently, they bought the colors Thyme and Chiffon Pink to the party. Just when I thought I was safe from temptation, they announced two holiday Dutch ovens in their Noël Collection: the 12 Days of Christmas Round Dutch Oven and the Holiday Tree Round Dutch Oven. I love them both but am drawn to the 12 Days of Christmas design.

Right now if you order US$250 on the Le Creuset site you will receive two free Heritage Soup Bowls using the code THANKSGIVING at checkout and shipping is free if you spend over US$99. If you use our links above, EYB earns a small commission. I am sharing this information because of my love of all things Le Creuset (Darcie is guilty of the same obsession).

On to cookbooks, all new authors start somewhere and many times they begin by working for Martha Stewart and her empire or other related food related icons. For example, Eitan Bernath, the Principal Culinary Producer for The Drew Barrymore show, released Eitan Eats the World: New Comfort Classics to Cook Right Now in May of 2022. His social media following is outrageous!

As I was updating the 2024 Preview post this week, I noticed two new books written by one-time assistants of some big culinary names. One of Ina Garten’s former assistants Lidey Heuck, who managed the Barefoot Contessa’s social media, tested recipes, and helped with anything needed to keep Ina’s kitchen and cookbook business running after graduating college. has Cooking in Real Life: Delicious and Doable Recipes for Every Day being published in March. (Note: A Member here has given this book three stars and I am not sure how they could judge the book without seeing it.) In addition, Hayden Haas, recipe developer, food stylist, and former personal assistant to Molly Yeh, has Simply Delishaas: Favorite Recipes From My Midwestern Kitchen being released in July.

These new voices have put in their time and now are coming into their own. When I worked in Manhattan, I was called by “headhunters” on two different occasions, once to work at Food Network in their contract review department and another time for a job working with Martha Stewart directly. I was very excited about the Food Network opportunity but the salary was low and while the salary for Martha Stewart was comparable to what I was earning at the time, I was a bit frightened of working for the grand dame herself. There is a saying in high pressure jobs that we receive battle pay. This meant I worked for an attorney who was very difficult and needy but I had a couple years under my belt and decided it was better the devil I knew. If salary and/or fear of the unknown were not an issue, I could possibly be a Food Network star. (Can you hear me laughing from Denver, Colorado?)

One other quick note about the 2024 Preview post – Dolci!: American Baking with an Italian Accent by Renato Poliafito, one half of the Baked team, is set for June 2024 publication! Very exciting.

I bought the Christmas Tree DO last year and am planning on getting the 12 days DO this year. They both are beautiful!
