This week: Pastry obsession; fall/autumn preview (baking titles); EYBD Previews; giveaways and more

This week I prepared Part I of the fall/autumn cookbook preview: baking titles and will have Part II ready in the next few weeks. All the baking and pastry cookbooks have me super excited to find some time to get back to baking.

I have been a fan of Ukrainian pastry chef Dinara Kasko for some time. She studied to be an architect but chose to retire from her career as a 3D visualizer and take up baking. Kasko uses a 3D printer to construct a silicon mold that can then be used to shape a cake or components of a entremet type cake.

Her works of confectionery art have been compared to the art of several artists, and Kasko has collaborated with pastry magazine So Good on a series of cake designs. Sadly, Kasko’s bakery in Kyiv was bombed during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In an effort to support her, I have purchased the following molds: the Chocolate Block and a set of her tart molds. I have a few of her other amazing designs on my wish list: the geometric star and cherry mold – actually I want them all!

Kasko’s impressive work is nothing short of genius and I hope to be able to “nail” a few of those designs with the help of her videos. I have been told that she is very responsive to emails and provides help when she can. Creating a chocolate block cake is first on my bucket list.
