This week: New online baking classes, a peek inside Dorie’s upcoming cookbook, EYBD Preview, cookbook giveaways and more!
April 9, 2021 by JennyThis week Williams-Sonoma announced their lineup for the next series of Baking School with Brian Hart Hoffman of Bake From Scratch. I have added these dates and particulars to our calendar.
I want to take a moment to highlight cookbooks (and upcoming cookbooks) from some of the bakers joining Brian in Baking School. The Cupcake Diaries was written by the bakers at Georgetown Cupcakes. Alice Choi is the voice behind the blog Hip Foodie Mom. Kate Wood has Her Daily Bread slated for December 2021. Emily Hutchinson’s Creative Cookie Decorating for Everyone is coming out in October 2021. Her first book Creative Cookie Decorating (2019) is a dream!
The Sweet Laurel bakers just released Sweet Laurel Savory this month and their 2018 debut title Sweet Laurel: Recipes for Whole Food, Grain-Free Desserts is brilliant. Kelly Field’s The Good Book of Southern Baking was a star from last year. And I love Michelle Lopez’ Weeknight Baking published in 2019. Lastly, Kylie Mazon-Chambers’ Share and Savor, a 2020 title, is a beautiful book filled with appetizer boards galore!
Speaking of baking, Dorie Greenspan has Baking with Dorie: Sweet, Salty & Simple scheduled for an October 19th release. At the time of the book’s release, Dorie will be celebrating thirty years in the cookbook world! Dorie is the baking equivalent of Yotam Ottolenghi. What I mean by that is that well before the book’s publishing date it will be on hundreds, if not thousands, of our members’ bookshelves. Few authors garner that much trust where preorders are a given.
This week I received a galley of Baking with Dorie: Sweet, Salty & Simple (a black and white draft version of the book), and I am already smitten and marking recipes. Dorie begins with a few pages of dos, don’ts and preferences before setting out the recipes organized as follows: Breakfasts (Great Starts to Every Day) – think breads, muffins, scones; followed by Cakes (Big and Small, Fancy and Simple); Cookies (All Kinds for all Times); Two Perfect Little Pastries (Cream puffs and Meringues); Pies, Tarts, Cobblers and Crisps (Through the Seasons); Salty Side Up (Satisfying Suppers, Sides and more) and ending with Basics, Must-Knows and Fillips.
Some interesting recipes that stood out to me in a book filled with greatness include: Custardy apple and kale cake, Clam chowder pie, Chunky lemon cornmeal cake and Breakfast-in-Rome lemon cake. Trust me (almost as much as you trust Dorie), preorder this book now and hold onto your receipt, Dorie will have a bonus for those who preorder. If you order from Amazon or Book Depository, please remember to use our BUY BOOK button on the EYB Library record. I can’t wait to hear what you all think in October!
