This week: Summer recipes, EYBD cookbook previews and giveaways

Sweet August has arrived and in thirty-one days, September will be embraced by my open arms. As temperatures are still sweltering here in the US, many cooks are looking for options to feed their families that can be accomplished on the stovetop. I think I’m one of the only ones who will endure the inferno of a hot oven to get my bake on. Although I do try to bake very early or very late in the day.

Summer pasta dishes (online recipes) are quick and easy and can be paired with a green salad and/or something from the grill. Our Library also has stove-top recipes (online recipes) that can be whipped up without breaking a sweat.

Obviously, the best way to beat the heat is by firing up the grill (online recipes) and/or moving your cooking outdoors. Recently, my friend and cookbook author Amy Thielen posted a photo of her set up for frying chicken outside. I’m going to invest in one of these outdoor burners. Not only will it keep my kitchen cooler but also cleaner! We love fried chicken here but having to degrease everything within a splattering radius is no fun at all! Just a note, Amy has a book coming in 2021 from W. W. Norton which is described as a big menu cookbook, with 175 recipes. The author loves to entertain so this book should be amazing! If you do not have her debut cookbook, The New Midwestern Table: 200 Heartland Recipes, do yourself a favor grab it!

Ceviche (online recipes) is refreshing and versatile and a great way to cool off deliciously. Ceviche and a boozy blender drink is a party in the making.
