Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi getting her own Hulu series
July 26, 2019 by DarcieMake room on your queue for yet another food-themed program on Hulu. The streaming service has just announced that it has signed Top Chef host and cookbook author Padma Lakshmi to a ten-episode series that will debut in 2020.
The program will feature Lakshmi traveling around the U.S., highlighting foods “from the first Americans to the latest arrivals.” The dishes will span the gamut from family recipes to those found at high-end restaurants. Lakshmi joins other high-profile food professionals on the service as it aims to compete with Netflix to be the home of the best food programming. In addition to this show, Hulu recently established a relationship with social-media site Tastemade, as well as a project with David Chang and Chrissy Teigen.
Amazon Prime video needs to step up its game. It has taken a different tack when it comes to food programs, choosing to air older programs like Jacques and Julia Cooking at Home as well as being the home for stalwart programs like America’s Test Kitchen. Amazon has put out a couple of food documentaries, but still lags behind Hulu and Netflix when it comes to dedicated food programs.
