Cookbook giveaway – The Banh Mi Handbook

The banh mi handbookAndrea Nguyen, cookbook author and contributing editor at Saveur, has penned a new book celebrating banh mi, the Vietnamese sandwich that owes its unique combination of flavors and textures to the influences of several cultures. (You can learn more about the history of banh mi in our author article.) The Banh Mi Handbook offers over 50 recipes for everything from the bread to the condiments and fillings both meaty and vegan.

    I have the fondest memories of eating Banh Mi in Australia when I worked there, the little bakery was so popular at lunchtime that the line was through the door onto the street. I don't see the little bakeries here in the US so I'd love to make my own. I always love the addition of cilantro and the chili.

    I love BahnMi. My favorite BahnMi place in Portland, Or lists one of the ingredients as "secrets". Love that!

    I've only made one kind and that was tonight for the first time – so imagine my surprise to see this giveaway! It was a chicken Bahn mi and it was just so-so, so I definitely would love this cookbook, to get better ideas. Anything with pork sounds delicious ๐Ÿ™‚

    The first (and best) banh mi I ever had was with tofu. But you have to have those pickled veggies and cilantro to really make the sandwich!

    I am fortunate to have a few restaurants in day-trip range ('here' being a food desert for Bahn Mi), and all of them are good. But my favorite part is the pickled vegetables – a universal.
