Best of the Best Cookbooks of 2012

… and the winner is Jerusalem  by Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi

After last year’s tie for first place, this year we have a very clear winner.  For the second year running Yotam Ottolenghi takes the crown, this time with his restaurant partner Sami Tamimi.

We amalgamated 214 Best Cookbooks of 2012 lists from TV, Radio, Newspapers, Magazines, Websites, Blogs and Booksellers across the world to come up with the definitive guide to the best books on food and drink.

    No doubt about that choice. Jerusalem is outstanding, yet Polpo almost matches it for design, edginess, clarity and simplicity. Interestingly on the top list, plus the 'almost got there' list, there were only three books that were sent to me for review. As a weekly food columnist I published my top choices from the books I had been sent, plus the books I had chosen to buy. there are so many that never came across my horizon. Would it be interesting to see just how the books of each contributing list were chosen?

    Jerusalem just crushed all contenders in the chow forums' Cookbook of the Month for January 2013, so those considering getting it might want to read along. And/or participate: some recipes from the book were published online as part of reviews.
