This week: The Book Depository closing; Kitchen Lingo Culinary Books; recipes and previews
April 7, 2023 by JennyThe Book Depository has announced that they will be closing down the site with the last day to place orders being 26th April 2023. They will continue to deliver your purchases and provide support for any order issues until 23 June 2023. While we encourage our Members to frequent local booksellers whenever possible, The Book Depository was a great resource – at least to me – for ordering an international book at a reasonable price.
For those outside the UK who have the urge to order international books and Amazon UK is not your preferred choice, I suggest Waterstones. Each season, I place an order at Waterstones for UK titles and am only charged one international shipping fee for the entire order, not by book. The only negative when I do this is that sometimes I forget which books I order and end up with duplicates. That is my fault being a cookbook junkie. Often you may order a signed copy of a title from Waterstones for a bit more – scroll down to the middle of the page to see “Signed and Special Editions”.
A new bookstore devoted to cookbooks has opened in Long Beach, California – Kitchen Lingo Culinary Books. Owned by Matt Miller, a former restaurateur, food writer and Long Beach Post contributor, Miller opened the doors to Kitchen Lingo for a soft opening on March 11. Kitchen Lingo offers what he describes as “seasoned” rather than “used” cookbooks. These books – and their highlighted recipes and tagged pages – are time capsules, he says.
