The Artful Pie Project Cookbook Giveaway
November 1, 2023 by JennyEnter our US/CA giveaway to win one of two copies of The Artful Pie Project: A Sweet and Savoury Book of Recipes by Denise Marchessault with artwork and photography by Deb Garlick. Congratulations to the author and photographer who received a Silver Runner-up Award in the Taste Canada Awards on Monday!
The Artful Pie Project was published in 2022 and I had to order it immediately because it met all my criteria. First, it is a baking book with both savory and sweet recipes (my favorite type) and the book is packed with beautiful imagery and contains a wealth of information on the art of pie.
Denise begins with all the basics such as “practicalities (things I wish I’d known when I was starting out)” followed by troubleshooting advice (avoiding the dreaded soggy bottom, etc.), recommended equipment, and baking staples.
The first chapter deals with a plethora of pastry dough recipes from Flaky pastry dough, Lemon almond dough to what to do with those precious scraps. There are also series of photographs for almost each dough to guide us to obtaining the correct end product.
After covering dough, Denise covers each type of pies, tarts or galettes as follows: Cherry & berry; Vegetable; Land & sea; Apple; Fruit & nut; Chocolate; Custard & cream; Citrus and ending with Sweet & savoury companions.
It is one of the most detailed and well-done books on all things pie that I have in my collection. There are three online recipes that our members can try now:
Denise will be virtually teaching a Milk Street Kitchen class on winter citrus three ways on December 5th. She will be making her Lemon cream tart and Marmalade mini pies from the book and also covering Chocolate-dipped candied orange peel.
Special thanks to the publisher for providing two copies of this title in our promotion. Entry options include answering the following question in the comments section of this blog post.
