Jamila Robinson to head Bon Appétit and Epicurious

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s assistant managing editor for food and culture, Jamila Robinson, has been tapped to lead Condé Nast magazine Bon Appétit and its companion website Epicurious, the newspaper announced earlier today. Robinson has been with the Inquirer since 2020, first as its food editor and then as an assistant managing editor. She will be replacing veteran book editor Dawn Davis, who stepped down in April.

Robinson will oversee all aspects of Bon Appétit and Epicurious’ operations, reporting directly to Anna Wintour, and will start the job on September 18. “It’s not every day you get to meet an accomplished writer and editor who has led features departments and food organizations, is a competitive skater, classically trained violinist, teacher, world traveler, and is an absolute whiz in the kitchen,” Wintour said in a statement. “Jamila is all of these things and more and I’m thrilled she’s coming to lead Bon Appétit and Epicurious.”

During her time with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Robinson changed virtually all aspects of the newspaper’s food coverage. She retooled the restaurant coverage, “centering the experience of the communities who cook and build local food businesses,” and she also revamped existing newsletters and launched a new one featuring Inquirer food critic Craig LaBan. She recently served as chair of the James Beard Foundation Journalism Committee and is currently the North America East Academy Chair of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

I’ve recently received a newly revamped issue of Bon Appetit with Robinson at the helm and really like it! For the first time in over a year, it has recipes that I want to make! And the format is simple and clean.
