Cake & Loaf Gatherings: Sweet and Savoury Recipes to Celebrate Every Occasion by Nickey Miller and Josie Rudderham celebrates celebrating! Nickey and Josie met in a bakery apprentice class and found that they shared a love of baking and their hometown Hamilton, Ontario Canada.
They opened their bake shop Cake & Loaf and have had enjoyed success due to their philosophy that their employees are their main ingredient (they are living wage employers) and everything in their shop is baked from scratch.
I want to visit their bakery – and pick up all the goodies and one of their fantastic looking totes (see their weekly menu at the link with the totes near the bottom). I particularly love that the totes are made locally and for every $30 in sales, a tree is planted in the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest. These ladies seem amazing, and I want to hang out with them while enjoying a peanut butter crunch bar!
Inside their new book they share their party planning and successful gathering advice – including tips for sustainable hosting, packaging take-home treats, and favours, and even how to create sharing platters to round out a party spread – along with their mouthwatering recipes organized by occasion, seasonally.
Every recipe includes make-ahead tips, storage notes, and more so you can plan to make recipes in advance of your gathering – stress-free entertaining and more time to spend with friends and family on that special day.
Along with a plethora of delicious desserts, recipes for savoury options for your next get-together are shared. These dishes include Mile-high pulled pork mac and cheese pie, Quiche two ways, Roasted vegetable torta rustica and Pull-apart garlic cheese buns.
