Movie-themed ideas for your Oscars party

The Academy Awards are coming up tomorrow, but it’s not too late to make changes or additions to your Oscar party menu (or to start planning an impromptu get together if you haven’t already done so). You might want to consider some of the recipes from The Washington Post, which came up with themed foods to match some of this year’s nominees for best picture.

They start off with a homey potato cakes recipe inspired by “All Quiet on the Western Front,” the somber WWI film where one of the few moments of respite from the war features potato cakes made by the protagonist’s mother. Another option is even easier: everything bagels, which of course come from “Everything Everywhere All at Once”. Since “Elvis” is one of the nominees, it’s the perfect time to break out the King’s favorite combination of peanut butter, banana, and bacon. The Wapo article’s suggestion only combines two of the three in an icebox cake, but the EYB Library contains 75 recipes that feature all three, like the Elvis French toast from The Woks of Life pictured above.

The article suggests an arugula salad for “Tár”, but it seemed like the more obvious (and arguably more delicious) choice would revolve around the “tartare” homonym. The “scare-cuterie” board for “The Banshees of Inisherin” was almost too realistic, but I will stick a bookmark in that one for Halloween.
