Celebrate National Margarita Day

Today is National Margarita Day in the United States. This is, of course, not an official holiday, but is one of the myriad food “celebration” days that highlight specific dishes, ingredients, and beverages. You can literally celebrate a different food every day if you so desire. These days range from National Cream Puff Day in January to Oatmeal Muffin Day in December.

While a handful of food celebration days are recognized worldwide (International Beer Day, for example), most of them seem to be in the US. But while specific food celebration days aren’t popular in other countries, food festivals abound. There are festivals celebrating tomatoes in Spain, onions in Switzerland, as well as more general events sprinkled across the continent.

While these food festivals showcase a region’s agricultural specialties or food traditions, the origins of specific food days are generally unknown. That said, I am sure no one will be surprised to find that the list of official sponsors for National Margarita Day includes makers of tequila and margarita mix. Perhaps these food “holidays” are crassly commercialized, but they are fun to celebrate anyway. I’m looking forward to Banana Cream Pie Day on March 2 (and I stand by my assertion that National Pie Day should be March 14, not January 23). But for today, here are 500+ margarita recipes from the EYB library.

What’s your favorite food celebration day?
