Super Bowl Sunday calls for super food

Millions of people will gather around their television sets this Sunday as the 57th Super Bowl takes place in Arizona. Even if you aren’t a fan of American football (which ironically is played almost exclusively with the hands and not the feet), you might tune in to see the commercials or the halftime show. And, most likely, you’ll be eating a lot of food during the event.

This is the second biggest food holiday in the United States, ranking only behind Thanksgiving.  On average, everyone watching the game will consume 2,400 calories during the event and combined, Americans will polish off over 30 million pounds of snacks and drinks. This includes items ranging from chips and dip to chili to chicken wings, with plenty of beer and other beverages to wash it all down.

To celebrate this unabashed gluttony, Food & Wine has assembled its 57 best Super Bowl recipes. This includes game day favorites like spinach artichoke dip, nachos, and deviled eggs. If you’re looking for other items you can always turn to the EYB Library, where you can search by subject or by using filters such as Snacks, Cooking for a crowd, or Entertaining and parties. You can use these filters individually or combine them to tailor your search to fit your needs.

I don’t have any team preference since the Pats aren’t in it but I always go over to a friend’s house for the game (or to be honest, for the ads and half-time show). My contribution is cornbread (to go with her chili) and salted caramel brownies (my signature dessert). Others are bringing dips, wings and other snacks.
