This week: 2023 books so far, recipes, EYBD Previews and giveaways

The 2023 Cookbook Preview Listing is already filled with exciting books and it isn’t even complete! Every other week I will highlight a few upcoming books. Update your wishlist and buy new bookshelves because there are some special books coming.

Dark Rye & Honeycake by Regula Ysewijn will be published February 14th. The acclaimed food writer turns her attention to her native Belgium for an intimate look at the culinary traditions and classic baked goods – including classic Carnival and Renaissance treats, pastries, pies, biscuits, cakes, breads and, of course, waffles. The photography is stunning and you can take a look inside with our EYBD Preview.

The US publication of RecipeTin Eats Dinner: 150 Recipes for Fast, Everyday Meals by Nagi Maehashi is slated for February 21st. I am in love with this book which was released last year by the popular Australian food blogger. Nagi is well-known for her recipes that work, aren’t complicated and are delicious! Starting next week I am going to be cooking at least one recipe a week from this book. The full index is available now (from the AU edition).

Mayumu: Filipino American Desserts Remixed by Abi Balingit will be published February 28th. During the pandemic, Abi created hundreds of “pasalubong” (souvenir) boxes filled with especially creative treats that blended the Filipino treats and Western style baked goods she grew up with. Each time, she’d sell out within hours and donated the proceeds to support her community in need. In her debut cookbook, she shares some of the cult-favorite desserts with Mayumu (which means “sweet” in one of the 8 major languages in Philippines), an incredibly fresh baking book of 75 recipes that span from the never-before-seen, incredibly inventive flavor combinations that Abi dreamed up, to the more familiar, classic Filipino favorites.

A few titles I added this week include Georgia’s Cakes by Georgia Green; ¡Buenos Días!: The Mexican Breakfast Book by Ericka Sanchez; The Authentic Ukrainian Kitchen by Ievgen Klopotenko; Jacques Pépin Cooking My Way; Latinísimo by Sandra A. Gutierrez; The Bakes That Break The Internet by Kat Buckley; Invitation to a Banquet: The Story of Chinese Food by Fuchsia Dunlop; The Sweet Polish Kitchen by Ren Behan; Shabbat by Adeena Sussman; I Could Nosh by Jake Cohen; Facilissimo!: Easy Cakes and Bakes for Everyday Italian Treats by Giuseppe Dell’Anno; The Color Of Food: The Recipes, Stories, and Celebration of Afro Cuisine in America by Todd Richards; and From Our Family’s Table to Yours by Lidia Matticchio Bastianich. Take a look at the ever-growing preview listing and let me know which books will make your wishlist.

Genuinely interested to read the Fuchsia Dunlop story of Chinese food. Almost all the rest are too specialized or not areas of interest, given my stage of cookbook buying (de-accessioning). But may they find their audience
