NEW FEATURE: Report Broken Links

Our EYB Library has 375,325 online recipes at this time. Those online recipes were all active when the links were created. However, websites revamp their site thus changing recipe locations or blogs close down so some links have become inactive or broken.

We have added a “Report Broken Link” icon – next to the “Recipe Online” icon – so that our members may report when a link is no longer active. We can then try to track down the updated link, find another source for that recipe and/or just delete the expired link. If the recipe is from an indexed blog, so not available elsewhere, we will remove that recipe completely from the blog index.

    Excellent! Much easier than before!

Thank you what a great idea! I used to email in about a broken link but began to find so many I gave up. This will be so much easier!

So helpful — thanks! Would it be useful for us to send you the updated link or link to another source?

Maybe we should add that option to the report link? Though for now, don’t worry about it – I can usually find a replacement quickly if there is one. We are also adding an email response when the link is removed or replaced – for now you won’t usually get an acknowledgment that your report has been dealt with.

Yes, thank you. This is more efficient–although, yes, I thought to make things easier for you, you would have included a field where we could provide you with the updated link.

As I said above, that is under consideration. Though I suspect many members may not understand that we can only link to recipes online that have been published with the publisher’s permission.

I’ve never know where to state my disappointment, so forgive me if I state it here. Regarding recipes you link to the Guardian (and perhaps other places, I forget) I cannot see anything because I haven’t donated to the Guardian or joined with a fee. The Guardian page will state that I have accessed their site ‘however many times’ in a certain length of time. I ‘do’ access every Sunday the Guardian along with Food, Living, Recipes, etc. I just am always perplexed that I cannot get a link through EYB for a recipe. It must be my computer, not your site; however, I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. This sort of falls under your ‘link’ information, so I’m posing it here. Nothing urgent, because I work around it. Thanks for listening. Rella

I’m surprised you are having that issue as the Guardian is a free site. They do encourage readers to donate (they have to make a living!) but nothing stops you from proceeding to the recipe. I’d be interested to hear if any other members have had this problem. A suggestion is to use the Incognito window on your browser.

Jane & Rella – re Guardian, my husband has that problem when he uses it on his phone. It asks him to sign in, rather than pay. On the desktop or laptop it doesn’t do it.

Thank you for the broken link button! Very helpful.

I just saw this button for the first time this week and within days was able to use it. Wow, thanks!

Now THIS is useful. I’ve been using it right and left. Thank you!!
