Food news antipasto

We love that our members are adding loads of photos to recipes in the EYB Library. Taking great food photos can be a bit tricky, which is why we are featuring two articles with tips for improving your food photos, whether you use a smartphone or a camera. The first comes from Australian Gourmet Traveller, and the second article is by the photographer who shot Dorie Greenspan’s newest book. Both pieces cover lighting, composition, cropping, editing, and more.

With autumn weather here in the Northern Hemisphere, fall cooking and baking are top of mind. Nothing says autumn more than pumpkin, whether baked into pies, turned into a luscious soup, or added to quick breads. The uses for this member of the squash family are seemingly endless. If you have pumpkin puree but need a bit of inspiration, turn to Epicurious, which has 39 recipes featuring all things pumpkin. The EYB Library is also a great source with over 3,500 pumpkin recipes.

If you like munching on snack foods, prepare to pay more for them next year. Both Mondelez and Kraft Heinz has said they are going to raise prices for items like Oreos, Toblerone, Jell-O, and EZ Mac. The increases range from 6 to 10 percent. The companies say the price increases are necessary to combat rising inflation, although so far they are both posting stronger than expected profits.

While mega corporations raise their prices amidst high profits, line workers say they are struggling to receive fair compensation and have been overworked since the start of the pandemic. Weetabix workers are gearing up to hold a four-day strike in a dispute over pay and working conditions, and the strike at Kellogg’s cereal plants continues as employees there oppose a two-tier system of pay and benefits. These strikes come on the heels of similar walkouts at Nabisco, Frito-Lay, and other companies.
