New wishlist feature

Many of you have been asking for this feature for a long time. We are delighted to announce that the Wishlist is finally here.

  1. Next to each book and magazine’s indexing status in the EYB Library you will see a red heart outline.
  2. When you click it, the heart turns to a solid red – the book or magazine is now on your Wishlist.
  3. To remove an item from your Wishlist you just click on the solid red heart and it changes back to an outline. None of the recipes from books in your Wishlist will appear in your searches.

To view and use your Wishlist:

  1. Select Wishlist from the filters on the right (or under the Filter link on a phone) in the EYB Library (not My Bookshelf).
  2. Sort your Wishlist using Sort by
  3. Use filters to find – types of books, courses, ethnicity, etc.
  4. Print your list using the Print command on the minimized view (the left option in View As under the green search bar).

Now when you are in a used bookstore looking for treasures, you can sort your Wishlist by author or title to quickly find a match. Or when someone asks you for a gift suggestion and you can’t remember the title of that Italian desserts book you have been craving – now you can find it in seconds.

Update Oct 20, 2021 – you can now share your wishlist with friends and family. Click the URL after you have selected the Wishlist filter in Library Books. Then email or text to whoever you want. They do not have to be an EYB member to open the link.

I am, of course, biased but I really love or should I say <3 this feature.

Thank you! I really like this addition. I personally have switched to only purchasing digital versions of cookbooks. (Works best for me.) But often the first version of a brand new cookbook will be hardback so I wait for a digital version and sometimes forget about it. Now I can mark it here and check back later.

I saw the forum announcement (and commented) before I saw this blog post so I’ll be brief: great new feature that is much appreciated – THANK YOU ๐Ÿ™‚

Can we use this feature to remove from our bookshelf the recipes from all past issues of a magazine that we are no longer interested in (rather than going through the issues one by one and deleting them)? That would be great.

    • Jane  on  August 25, 2021

No, this is a completely different feature. The wishlist is not on your Bookshelf. Magazines you have added are. So yes, you do need to remove magazine issues one by one.

    Excellent addition, thank you!

    So wonderful – thank you!!

Awesome! I’m filling my wishlist already.
Part of what I like about EYB is getting a sneak peak or recipes before I buy a book. I’d like to suggest for the future: maybe we could get an email when a wishlist book is newly indexed, like we do for the bookshelf?

    • Jane  on  August 26, 2021

I’m not sure how feasible that is though I will pass on the request to our developers. In the meantime, whenever you look at your wishlist, the most recently indexed books will be at the top.

I’m thrilled. I just transferred all the cookbooks from another online wishlist (that will remain nameless). But I’d like to know whether it’s possible to send friends and family a link to the wishlist so that I won’t get another alligator lamp for my birthday ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Jane  on  August 26, 2021

Not right now but it is on our developers’ list to add that feature (hopefully before your birthday comes around – got to protect the world’s alligators!).

  • trudys_person  on  August 26, 2021

Yay! I’m so happy to have this feature – I can stop using the “nameless” Wishlist too. My family never looks at it anyway–no matter how much I hint. (Thought I’ve never received an alligator lamp!) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, I think a better feature would be the ability to search your ‘notes’ field for particular keywords that help find specific ingredients. For example, a search for chicken breast returns all recipes using chicken. Instead, a search on boneless chicken breasts or chicken thighs or boneless chicken thighs would produce a more relevant results set. A method to suggest enhancements to the existing indexing database may provide similar results. Community participation would be a must in either process.
