We are all Ina Garten right now

Being at home all of the time makes it difficult to remember what day of the week it is, so we’re going to pretend it’s Sunday again and time for more food news ‘antipasto’.

Today the beloved Ina Garten reminded us why we love her. She posted a video in which she is making a giant Cosmo (and when I say giant, I mean 2 cups of vodka in one glass giant). In the humorous clip we see Ina making a pitcher of cosmos, saying “you never know who’s stopping by. Wait. No one’s stopping by.”

Eater is offering advice that many of us may need right now. They are telling us not to worry so much about strictly adhering to a diet plan during the pandemic. Writer Amy McCarthy tells us that “diet culture doesn’t just harm fat people. It reminds all of us that we are not good enough, that being just a little bit thinner and more toned is the key to happiness.” Instead, she argues, we should use the time to “be a little bit nicer to both our own bodies, and the bodies that we are told are not good enough.”

The mainly dark news cycle these days is punctuated with uplifting moments. Among these is one provided via reporter Olivia Solon, who tweeted a photo of what she called “the most SF [San Francisco] shelter in place thing ever“: several zip-top bags of sourdough starter taped to a utility pole for anyone who wanted to take it home and bake bread with it. The starter’s name is Godrick, in case you were wondering.

Serious Eats put together a lighthearted video that lists the ten most common “crimes” against pasta. It’s a playful take on the television show Law & Order, reporting the offenses such as putting olive oil in your pasta water, over-saucing, and using pre-grated cheese. In addition to the top ten, there are “bonus” crimes delineate at the end plus some cheesy outtakes.

Food52 is joining the chorus of people explaining how to help bookstores and authors during this uncertain time. Since so many book signings, in-person cooking classes, and other events have been cancelled, it’s up to cookbook lovers to find new ways to support our favorite local booksellers and favorite food writers.
