Food news antipasto

The week flew by too quickly once again, but here it is time for a review of the little items that I found interesting over the week but that did not warrant an entire post.

While I love to watch food shows like Chef’s Table, I must admit that sometimes I find them a bit too precious. If you do too, you might want to check out the new ‘mockumentary’ that will be offered on College Humor’s online streaming service  Dropout next month. Titled ‘Gods of Food’, the parody follows the same trajectory as that of its inspiration. While the subjects of the mockumentary are fictional, real chefs make cameos. You’ll see culinary stars like Hugh Acheson, Alison Roman, and Richard Blais.

ice cream cone

If your answer to the question ‘what is the best topping for an ice cream cone?’ is ‘another ice cream cone’, you are on fleek. The latest trend, which I am calling Cone-ception, features tiny ice cream cones perched on larger ice cream cones. One of the local ice cream shops in the Twin Cities (Izzy’s) offers a tiny scoop on top of the regular scoop, but it does not have its own cone – at least not yet.

While you may encounter a paywall, the Los Angeles Times has a good, long read on how women pastry chefs have created a ‘baking revolution’. The story highlights how being relegated to pastry – where there were few men – women were able to change the culture of the kitchen, and carve out new paths for themselves and others who followed.

Finally, because I am a sucker for anything that might make me a tad more organized, we have tips for keeping your freezer organized. I need to follow some of Taste of Home’s advice to avoid having yet another frozen item fall on my foot when I open the freezer door.
