April Fools’ Day food pranks
April 1, 2019 by DarcieI have to admit that I almost fell for it. Scrolling through my Twitter feed today I noticed Stella Parks (@bravetart) announcing a new format for the recipes on Serious Eats, merging their technique and recipe posts into one. “Wait, what?” I thought briefly, before remembering what day it was. (If you haven’t seen the ‘foolproof’ blackberry cake recipe that was linked to the tweet, you really should read it.)
That was far from the only April Fools’ Day prank I came across. Plenty of writers and websites jumped in with funny and clever posts, and one of the funniest came from The L.A. Times. The title of its April Fools’ article was “For cramped New York, an expanding dining scene,” poking fun at L.A.’s main food culture rival.
The Kitchn compiled a list of the best food-related April Fools’ Day pranks, which included a new hot dog flavor for Siggi’s yogurt, Bon Appetit moving to an ASMR video format (I had to look up what that meant), and a ‘unicorn box’ from food delivery service HelloFresh. While I didn’t get fooled by any of the pranks, the day did inspire me to serve a fool for dessert tonight, perhaps the Rhubarb fool from Rustic Desserts pictured above. Did any April Fools’ posts tickle you today?
