Travel around the world in a sweet way

 Black mulberry soup

When people talk about virtually traveling around the world by making dishes from various cuisines, savory foods generally get the spotlight. But we shouldn’t forget about dessert, says indexed magazine Saveur. They examine 22 different dessert recipes from across the globe

Some of the recipes are familiar, like French eclairs and chocolate chip cookies. But if you are in a baking rut and want to try something completely different, several recipes in the list may get your creative juices flowing. Take this Turkish Black mulberry soup with kaymak ice cream (pictured above) for example. It’s striking in appearance and leans toward the tart side so it’s perfect for those who don’t like super sweet desserts.

Even ingredients that might be familiar to Western palates are given new treatments. Semolina and coconut combine in a North African Semolina-coconut cake with orange and rose waters (Basbousa) and an Indian Goan version as well. Moving to Slovenia we find a  towering cake that combines pantry staples to make a unique cake: poppy seed, walnut, cottage cheese, and tart apple all work together in this multilayered masterpiece.
