Cookbook giveaway – The Zumbo Files

The Zumbo Files

For his third cookbook The Zumbo Files, top Sydney pastry chef Adriano Zumbo recreates some of the classic desserts we all grew up drooling over. In addition to providing his favourite recipes for these confections, he applies his Willy Wonka-esque genius to twist each classic into a contemporary incarnation that plays on the original recipe. You can learn more about the book in our author Q&A.

We’re delighted to offer 4 copies of The Zumbo Files to EYB Members in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. One of the entry options is to answer the following question in the comments section of this blog post:

Zumbo uses intriguing ingredients like Vegemite, yuzu, tonka beans, and chocolate-covered Pop Rocks. Which unusual ingredient most excites you (or are you more interested in Zumbo’s novel techniques)?

Please note that you must be signed into the Rafflecopter contest before posting the comment or your entry won’t be counted. The contest ends June 6, 2015.

Its not the ingredients he uses that makes the dishes shine its the wonderful spin he puts on food we see as normal.

Vegemite but I would use marmite!

  • contest718  on  May 9, 2015

probably the vegemite since i have watched so many programs where people overseas love it but americans supposedly find it disgusting.

Wow….love to use unusual ingredients when baking….this book looks amazing.

I'm interested in the technique, since many of the ingredients I'm sure are not available in my small corner of New Zealand.

Vegemite does hold a certain fascination… it's hard to think of a food that inspires such loyalty in some people, and such disgust in others!

  • rahiscock  on  May 11, 2015

I'm more interested in technique, rather than ingredients, especially his famous macaroons

    yuzu. Mmmm.

Would be super interested in trying recipes not from my own country's repetoire. Love trying new things. Thanks.

I think more the techniques. Usually I find that if I go out of my way to get some odd ingredient for one recipe, I'm disappointed.

  • pokarekare  on  May 15, 2015

Definitely the techniques! my pantry was too full of unusual ingredients that caught my eye in the past and never got used.

  • TrishG  on  May 15, 2015

Love the unique way he presents his foods

I'd quite like to try something using yuzu

  • digifish_books  on  May 18, 2015

Very intrigued about how he incorporates Eucalyptus into a recipe. It usually only used in very small quantities in products such as toothpaste or cough drops.

Childhood memories….vegemite and butter on milk arrowroot biscuits, shredded wheatmeal biscuits, vitabrits….yum!

  • pandapotamus  on  May 24, 2015

    yuzu!

  • mtrudinger  on  May 27, 2015

The use of vegemite sounds intriguing, it's such an iconic flavor for Aussies.

  • Cookie1  on  May 27, 2015

I have tasted Zumbo's Meat Pie macarons and they truly tasted like Meat Pies. He did it for Australia Day I think.

  • Beckiemas  on  May 27, 2015

New ingredients is very interesting – I'd love to see how yuzu is used. This comes up in many recipes from Jude Blereau, too

  • sillyvy  on  May 28, 2015

    vegemite!

  • Kelvine  on  May 28, 2015

I love Vegemite, that's the ingredient I am most intrigued by, in cakes?!!

  • JanScholl  on  May 28, 2015

I bought a jar of both Vegemite and Marmite at the store….now gotta figur out what to do with them. ๐Ÿ™‚

Adrian Zumbo is THE king of desserts and flights of fancy. I love his technique and his courage and creativity and, let's face it, every Australian cook needs some food porn to drool over while reading in front of the fire or in bed now that winter is rolling in.

  • Suirauqa  on  May 28, 2015

Pop Rocks! Zumbo rocks! I would love the opportunity learn of, and to use some of Adriano's techniques in my baking.
