A chance at a dream for $125 and 200 words
March 11, 2015 by DarcieDo you ever dream about operating a quaint country inn, nestled in an area with breathtaking natural beauty? Do visions of baking charming pies and serving exquisite meals in a picturesque historic building dance through your head? Now you have a chance to fulfill your dreams for a pittance and a song: a Maine bed and breakfast owner is giving away her inn for $125 and an essay, according to the Portland Press Herald. The contest by innkeeper Janice Sage echoes the competition that she entered in 1993 to win the Center Lovell Inn & Restaurant.
The owners of the inn
at that time, Bil and Susie Mosca, came up with the idea after
realizing that it would be difficult to sell the inn using
traditional methods. The contest eventually gained worldwide
attention and the Moscas even appeared on a national television
talk show. They selected Janice Sage as the winner out of thousands
of entries.
Sage hopes to attract 7,500 entries, which would provide her with $900,000, which is approximately the value of the 12-acre property, which includes the inn, built in 1805, and several outbuildings. The 68-year-old plans on using the money to fund her retirement. You can find out more about the contest, including official rules and entry forms, at https://wincenterlovellinn.wordpress.com/.
