What’s your sign?

Gemini cocktail

While the pickup line of “what’s your sign?” has fallen out of fashion (at least, we hope it has), horoscopes still enjoy some popularity. Now Saveur has matched each astrological sign to its perfect cocktail complement. The drink for Gemini, pictured above, is called La Puella y el Puer. Bartender/astrologer Patricia Clark Hippolyte created the cocktail “specifically for Gemini drinkers: it’s a two-fisted drink, and its lemon and lavender flavors are versatile enough to pair with either vodka or gin-one spirit for the first half of the sign, the second for the other.”

Taurus gets an over the top concoction with bacon, popcorn, vodka, caramel liqueur, and scotch, to match the “more is more” association with the sign. Hot headed Aries meets its match with jalapeño and chile-infused bitters adding a spicy kick to a fruity cocktail made with muddled berries. Health-conscious Virgos can sip on a vegetal, bright green cocktail made with celery and lemon juices, Lillet, celery bitters, and gin.

If you’re on the cusp and feel the need to indulge in multiple cocktails just to make sure you are getting the right one, you might want to investigate the method for preventing a hangover that’s making the social media rounds. It involves eating yeast, ostensibly to digest the alcohol before it gets to your liver. Sounds too good to be true.

What do you think of the Saveur cocktail/astrological sign matchups?

Not that I believe in any astrological rubbish, but my birthday is on the cusp of of Gemini and Cancer (yes, I know, I don't believe in it, but I still know what I am). So I can go for the Summer Alexander (which sounds appealing) or the La Puella y elpuer pictured above (which doesn't, as I don't like the flavor of lavender). But I liked several of the other star sign cocktails even more so I guess taste bears no relation to star sign (there's a surprise!).

This is such a fun story. I followed the link to Saveur to see what exciting drink they had for me – a Sagittarius. Each drink I saw for the other signs was more interesting than the one before until I finally reached Sagittarius. What did I find? A jello shot? I finally decided that a Margarita with ginger simple syrup might be kind of interesting but I think I'll leave the gelatin out.

I love the idea of my drink, though I've never had absinthe. For once, the description of Aquarius fits me perfectly. Sounds like a fun idea for a themed party.
