Top selling books of 2013 around the world

It was fun to see where Yotam's books were selling around the world 🙂

Is there a way to get the top selling cookery books of 2013 from Amazon and its subsidiaries? I'm sure that would give a much truer picture of the best sellers in cookery. I'm from the UK and haven't even heard of most of the books on the UK book shop list!

  • Jane  on  January 28, 2014

Susan_F – I don't think Amazon share their sales figures. We are focusing on the sales through specialist cookbook stores – the Amazon list would contain a lot of diet books and TV chefs, which typically are not sold through cookbook stores. We thought these lists were a good starting point for anyone looking for interesting new books!

The only info Amazon has available is their top 100 overall bestselling books for 2013 which have some cookbooks included. And as Jane said, they are mostly diet books and TV chefs (with a few others thrown into the mix — Ottolenghi seems to be making an appearance just about everywhere!)

Well ok I just couldn’t resist it! So here are Amazon’s top selling cookery books for 2013. I’ve included diet books when they are actually proper cookery books, but not when they’re just describing the diet and have a few recipes stuck on at the end.
    …..
From Amazon.co.uk, of the top 100 bestsellers, 21 are cookery books and the top 10 appear within the top 40 books overall. However, for Amazon.com only 5 cookery books appear in the whole of the top 100 bestsellers, with the no.1 best-selling cookery book not appearing until 38th place!

    UK
    The Hairy Dieters
    Tom Kerridge’s Proper Pub Food
    Save With Jamie
    Rick Stein’s India
    Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals
    Eat (Nigel Slater)
The Fast Diet Recipe Book (Mimi Spencer)
    Paul Hollywood’s Bread
The Hairy Dieter’s Ear For Life
    Paul Hollywood’s Pies and Puds

    US
The Pioneer Woman Cooks: A Year of Holidays (Ree Drummond)
    It’s All Good (Gwyneth Paltrow)
    Jerusalem (Ottolenghi, of course)
    Forks Over Knives (Various)
    Wheat Belly Cookbook

Looks like here in the UK we are rather TV chef cookbook mad. (I have to admit to owning 5 of the top 10 and I’m sure Pies and Puds will probably end up in my bookcase one day too!)

Oddly, the only store where the Ottolenghi/Tamimi books aren't in the top ten is in London. Guess their customers all bought them in 2010-2012!

Thanks EYB – always on the hunt for a few books that I may not already have on my list! Will enjoy browsing and buying, despite New Year's resolutions to be more restrained!

Seen anything interesting? Let us know & we'll share it!
