Green smoothies are the newest fad

Green smoothie

This post is written for two very diverse audiences. First, and most importantly, we wanted to extend our best wishes to our Australian members who are suffering under an extreme and dangerous heat wave. We’re sending cold thoughts your way. And second, we thought this was a timely issue for everyone who is dealing with the excesses of the holiday.

Why are green smoothies so popular? Opinions vary, but we think it is a natural extension of the explosive popularity of kale. In what seems to be a concerted effort to add kale to everything, smoothies have simply come to the head of the line. As it turns out, adding kale to a smoothie made with bananas or grapes or berries provides all the nutrients but any grassy taste is hidden, making a green smoothie one of those holy grails – foods that are good for you but don’t taste that way. (One bit of warning, though – adding green kale and blueberries makes a rather unattractive color that may require some explaining).

Thanks for thinking of us and yes by crikey it's hot here the last few days with heat records broken and bushfires all over the place. It's much too hot for cooking although my new ice cream maker is getting a workout. Maybe I should try green sorbet?
