Recipes worthy of a diamond jubilee
June 1, 2012 by Lindsay
This weekend marks Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond
Jubilee, celebrating her 60th year as the constitutional monarch
of England. In honor of the occasion, the Braiser has
gathered recipes from 5 distinguished British chefs that were
designed to celebrate this amazing accomplishment – only the second
Diamond Jubilee ever celebrated, Queen Victoria having celebrated
the first.
Strawberries come to the forefront in several recipes, but in very different ways – and there are other intriguing offerings as well. Contributing are: Gordon Ramsay, (Eton Mess – strawberry mergingue with basil), Angela Hartnett (barbecued spatchcock chicken), Heston Blumenthal (strawberry crumble crunch), Jamie Oliver (an entire picnic basket with scotch eggs, Yorkshire pudding with cold trout and horseradish paté, and vegetable coleslaw), and Nigella Lawson with mini pavlovas and gingerbread with lemon icing.
And don’t worry, there’s a link here and in the article for easy conversion from British measurements for our U.S. readers.
Long live Brittania!
