IACP 2024 Award Finalists

The finalists for the 2024 IACP Cookbook and Media Awards were announced last evening. The Awards honor the authors, publishers, and other contributors behind the best cookbooks published each year. Their program requires multi-step, rigorous recipe testing in all relevant awards categories. Awards are given in 16 categories, and one cookbook will be selected by the IACP Executive Committee Members as the IACP Book of the Year. Winners will be announced on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at The New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn, NY at the International Association of Culinary Professionals Summit and Awards Ceremony.

On to what you really want to know – the names of the nominees for this year’s awards. The General cookbook category features Milk Street Simple by Christopher Kimball, Start Here: Instructions for Becoming a Better Cook by Sohla El-Waylly and Tenderheart: A Book About Vegetables and Unbreakable Family Bonds by Hetty McKinnon.

This year, one title Seed to Plate, Soil to Sky: Modern Plant-Based Recipes using Native American Ingredients by Lois Ellen Frank, has been named a finalist in three categories: American, Food Issues and Matters and Health and Nutrition.

Cocktails and drink titles include: Juke Joints, Jazz Clubs, & Juice: Cocktails from Two Centuries of African American Cookbooks by Toni Tipton-Martin, Strong, Sweet and Bitter: Your Guide to All Things Cocktails, Bartending and Booze from Behind the Bar by Cara Devine and The Book of Cocktail Ratios: The Surprising Simplicity of Classic Cocktails by Michael Ruhlman.

Other books of note include A Middle Eastern Pantry: Essential Ingredients for Classic and Contemporary Recipe by Lior Lev Sercarz (International), Lune: Croissants All Day, All Night by Kate Reid (Single Subject), and Made in Taiwan: Recipes and Stories from the Island Nation by Clarissa Wei (First Book: Julia Child Award).

We would be remiss to neglect the Baking category, especially when the competition features knockout titles like Anna Olson’s Baking Wisdom: The Complete Guide: Everything You Need to Know to Make You a Better Baker (with 150+ Recipes) by Anna Olson, Everyday Bread: 100 Recipes for Baking Bread on Your Schedule by America’s Test Kitchen and Scandinavian from Scratch: A Love Letter to the Baking of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden by Nichole Accettola.

You can see all of the 2024 book award nominees on our IACP 2024 page, and you can also view media award nominees on the International Association of Culinary Professionals website.

Always love to see Anna Olson on these lists…I think she’s a a Canadian national treasure.

I treated myself to a copy of Start Here a couple of months ago and think it’s a strong contender for a prize, well worth reading and cooking from.
