Accessorize your air fryer

Apparently I am the only person in the world who has not discovered the joys of an air fryer. Following a recent office lunch outing, a group of my colleagues discussed the wonderful meals they recently made in their air fryers, and of the dozen people there I was the sole holdout who hadn’t yet purchased this marvelous appliance. Since I need to replace an aging toaster oven I am considering joining the gang, so I set about to do some research on which device would best suit my needs. During my browsing I stumbled across a great article from BBC Good Food about the best accessories to use with an air fryer.

It appears there are as many, if not more, accessories for this than there are for Instant Pots. You can find baking sets, specially shaped spoons, racks galore, and silicone and metal baskets, trays, and other tools. BBC Good Food tested a number of these accessories and provided their picks in different categories. While these products are from the UK, readers from other countries may be able to find the same brands where they live thanks to the air fryer’s popularity around the world.

In addition to showcasing various items, the article offers advice about what to look for when evaluating other tools and gadgets made for the appliance, reminding us to check the dimensions of the items to ensure they will fit the brand and style of the machine. While many accessories are compatible with multiple models, the overall size and shape vary so measuring is key. Unlike cookware, it seems you can often find a better value when you buy sets versus purchasing each item separately. Are there are air fryer accessories that you find indispensable?

I don’t have any accessories beyond what came with my air fryer but my daughter says the paper liners (like a large muffin tin liner) if you have a basket type of air fryer can help clean-up and avoid food sticking to the base.

I love air fryers. I have two now. One is older and simpler shake the pan type with grilling. Recent purchase was more advanced air fryer with excellent grilling top I use now for fish, steaks, chicken, and pork. It works beautifully for about 3-4 servings. I also purchased carryon so I can take this in our trailer instead of using combo toaster oven/microwave that came with it because it is too cumbersome to use. I hardly use instant pot but us these two all the time.

No accessories here. Our original air fryer was the toaster oven kind and honestly I was underwhelmed. I figured people were just exaggerating the hype. Last year I had some extra Macy’s points to use and ended up getting a basket-style air fryer. That thing is on a totally different level! Makes everything so much crispier and without any sticking. I still have the other one and use it regularly as a toaster oven. But if I want crispy, crunchy perfection, then it’s the basket one.
