A new food museum to add to your bucket list
March 9, 2022 by DarcieIf you needed another reason to place a vacation to Rome on your bucket list, we just learned about a new museum dedicated to cooking that just opened in this storied city. Like a good antipasto platter, it contains a smattering of all the best items, ranging from Renaissance-era ice cream molds to ancient cookbooks to exclusive papal recipes and more.
The Museo della Cucina, located in a Roman palazzi on Palatine Hill, is set to open to the public in May, but Ronan O’Connell got a sneak peak and shared his discovery with BBC Travel. O’Connell described some of the museum’s contents, including scores of culinary tools on display such as “bulky 19th-Century pasta machines, 220-year-old Italian bowls once used by Italian monks and well-worn steel pots designed for making osso bucco.”
In addition to browsing through these fascinating historical items, visitors will eventually be able to participate in tastings based on the recipes from the vintage cookbooks, some of which date back centuries. There are also plans to conduct banquets at the museum, also featuring foods created from ancient recipes. It sounds like the Museo della Cucina is a must-see for food lovers who plan to visit Rome, and perhaps even reason enough to book a trip.
