November 28, 2021 by DarcieWe wanted to start this week’s roundup by wishing our members who celebrate a Happy Hanukkah. A few years ago I wrote about the history of Hanukkah latkes, including the tidbit that originally latkes were not made with potatoes (which are indigenous to the Americas) but rather with cheese. If you are looking for recipes to help you celebrate, head over to our Hanukkah Pinterest Board which features many newly published recipes, including the Bimuelos with cranberry curd and cardamom honey from Food & Wine Magazine pictured below.
Recipe apps have exploded over the past few years, with companies like Allrecipes and Food Network offering apps that promise thousands of recipes at your fingertips. These apps have a downside, however, according to a recent report by Mozilla Foundation, creator of the “Privacy Not Included” holiday shopping guide. The Foundation found “personal data streaming out of popular Android recipe apps, including precise location, detailed device information as well as scrolling and tapping behavior.” The biggest offenders according to Mozilla were Allrecipes Dinner Spinner, Recipes Home — Easy Recipes and Shopping List and Food Network Kitchen. In case you were wondering, Eat Your Books has never shared our membership data or mailing list with any third parties except for our own use, such as the vendor we use to send emails.

The Vegas location will be inside Caesar’s Palace, and will be Ansel’s first US restaurant outside of New York City. The bakery will serve the iconic Cronut as well as new items.

‘Tis the season for bubbly: between now and New Year’s, people will be quaffing Champagne and sparkling wines at parties and dinners. The Evening Standard offers a list of the 25 best fizzy wines for your holiday celebrations.
