Cook’s Country names new editor
September 15, 2020 by DarcieCook’s Country magazine, part of the America’s Test Kitchen franchise, has announced a new editor-in-chief. Toni Tipton-Martin, whose books The Jemima Code and Jubilee have won both awards and our members’ hearts, will become the new editor in chief of Cook’s Country.
The change comes as publishers grapple with the issues of cultural appropriation and alleged discrimination against people of color. Tipton-Martin’s comments in her Cook’s Country interviews mirrored her style as food editor of a major Midwestern newspaper: “I explained that my vision would be identical to my approach at The Plain Dealer, which was to investigate the cooking of every single, solitary culture in the city until we hit everybody,” she said.
Tipton-Martin will replace Tucker Shaw, who was the Cook’s Country editor for nearly seven years. Shaw left the magazine and is currently finishing a novel that will be published by Henry Holt & Co. sometime next year.
