IACP Cuisinart Awards – 2020 Nominees

Congratulations to the 2020 class of nominees for the International Association of Culinary Professionals Cuisinart Awards. The winners will be announced at the IACP Annual Conference on March 28, 2020 in Pittsburgh.

Once again the IACP has made changes to the categories of books being judged. For 2020 two categories got the axe: there will be no Compilations or Reference/Technical books earning an IACP badge of honor. Why Reference/Technical was put to pasture while there are still two categories with significant overlap (International and Culinary Travel) is a mystery to me. Most of the honorees are EYB Member favorites, and there are no clear standouts in many categories which makes for an exciting contest.

Match-ups that are particularly interesting include Jubilee by Toni Tipton Martin and South by Sean Brock vying for best American cookbook and Midwest Made by Shauna Sever, Pastry Love by Joanne Chang, and The New Pie by Chris Taylor and Paul Arguin all competing for the best Baking tome; and All About Dinner by Molly Stevens. Christopher Kimball is once again nominated in the General category, this year for Milk Street: The New Rules. Will he pull off rare back-to-back wins?

Other EYB Member favorites nominated include Sababa by Adeena Sussman and Food Artisans of Japan by Nancy Singleton Hachisu (Culinary Travel); and Tartine: Revised Edition by Elisabeth Prueitt competing against Nothing Fancy by Alison Roman for best Food Photography & Styling .

In addition to these cookbook awards, IACP is honoring blogs, podcasts, radio and television programs, newspaper and magazine columns, restaurant criticism, and other food writing. In these categories, finalists of note include Kathy Gunst for NPR’s Here and Now in the radio category and Kat Kinsman in the personal essay category for A Place at the Table.
