Which food words make you laugh?
March 22, 2013 by LindsayKerry Acker at Epicurious wrote a column yesterday – Food Words are Funny! which certainly sent us into the weekend with a smile:
“I woke up this morning and laughed out loud. Why? Because, for some inexplicable reason, the first thing I thought about as I crawled out of bed was the word pumpernickel. Seriously, is there a funnier word out there? Pumpernickel is hilarious. (As to why my subconscious homed in on the coarse, German-style rye-sourdough bread this AM, your guess is as good as mine.)”
Making the (surprising to us) comment that so many food words are funny, Acker goes on to explore why and demonstrates with a number of videos. We especially enjoyed the George Carlin video on being a fussy eater with his discussion of why he can’t eat certain foods such as “yogurt,” “squash,” “succotash,” “wheat germ,” “eggplant,” and “head cheese” because of their sound. He nominates “kumquat” as the funniest word of all time.
So if you’re looking for a laugh to go into the weekend with, check out the article. And feel free to add your own contribution. We’re adding a somewhat obvious one – “snickerdoodle.” It always makes us smile.
