Best of the best 2022

Despite the continued stresses of the worldwide pandemic, there has been no shortage of wonderful new cookbooks this year. And no shortage of best food and drink book lists celebrating the cream of the crop. We have assembled 332 lists from around the world to create our 14th annual Best of the Best.

For years, each time Ottolenghi published a new cookbook he garnered the top spot, but last year he did not. This year he snagged the third spot. Korean American: Food that Tastes Like Home by Eric Kim has the honor of best book of 2022.

As well as the top 10 books of the year plus six runners up, we have charts showing the votes from the UK/Ireland, Canada and Australia/New Zealand. We also produced specialist charts for Vegetarian & vegan, Drinks, and Food writing/memoirs. Check out all the lists plus look back over the previous 13 years’ lists.

    Is it just me or do the same “celebrity” authors come up year after year? Sorry to pick on you Jamie but your cookbooks have just become formulaic tat yet every year there you are in the best cookbooks of the year….. seriously?? Your cookbooks are permanently half price which kinda hurts all the other non-industrial authors by devaluing cookbooks. Are we just seeing the dark underbelly of the industry where best seller lists etc are just topped by the publisher willing to pay the most?
    Would love to see more little known authors who are genuinely producing great cookbooks to little or no recognition.

    My son introduced me to Rick Martinez on youtube and then his cookbook. I’ve enjoyed cooking from it immensely. I’ve had several big meals of family and friends with great success. I highly recommend Mi Cocina.
