Improve your cooking skills with EYB’s new feature

Peeling tomatoesWe’ve created a new feature that gives you access to 594 (and counting!) online how-to demonstrations, including how to carve a duck, how to make homemade ricotta, how to make marshmallow fluff, and how to prepare and cook artichokes. Select tutorials from cookbooks are indexed as well.  And even better, 127 of the tutorials have  videos.

To browse all of the how-to links, go to the Eat Your Books Recipes Library. Then, on the Filter By sidebar, click on Recipe Types, choose Misc., then click the plus sign (+) next to How-to. Check (tick) the box next to Online Recipes in the Show Only  sidebar to limit the search to online sources. To see videos, check (tick) the Video Recipes filter. You can also perform a search first, then narrow the results to the tutorials following the same directions.

    This is cool and all, but it seems like a awfully complicated path to reach the videos. Can't you add a menu item or something?

    The problem is, if we add a menu item every time we add a new feature, it's going to get very cluttered. However, if this feature grows a lot and becomes something a lot of members are using, then we may consider it.

    FuzzyChef, it's not that complicated if you think of it as just another search filter. Just four clicks: Recipes / Recipe Types / Misc / How-To. All the search filters require going down a couple of levels.

    It is all about face validity. It must appear simple to be be perceived as simple, especially when running around a busy kitchen trying to keep ten things going.

    Fine, but there is not a + or – on the "How-to."
    Even so,
    Nothing happens when I click on "How-To" right or left click.

    Rella, are you getting to the 'How-to' category by way of the recipe filters, i.e., My Bookshelf/Recipes/Recipe Types/Misc/How-to ? When I do that, there's a plus by 'How-to' just as with all the other filter categories. And clicking the plus reduces the recipes displayed to those that are 'How to…'

    Thank you, Ellabee.
    I followed your instructions, but after I Click "Misc" and it shows "How-to?"
    But there is no way that I can click onto "How-to" nor does it show a plus or minus.

    None of the other filter categories will work in that manner either.
