Cookies!, Cookbooks & Convos, EYBD Previews, recipes and more
September 6, 2024 by JennyThis year we are blessed with a wealth of fantastic cookie cookbooks being published. So hold off finalizing those holiday cookie plans until you take a look at these titles and those to come! Look for more cookie cookbook updates in the next few weeks.
First of all the impeccable Zoë François’ Zoë Bakes Cookies: Everything You Need to Know to Make Your Favorite Cookies and Bars was released this week. There are 110 recipes – with recipes ranging from Basque-style cheesecake berry bars, Dulce de leche rice crispy bars, Miso caramel chocolate bars, Rye white-chocolate macadamia nut cookies, Pistachio tahini cookies along with biscotti, Hamantaschens, madeleines, and meringues. I’d estimate half cookies and half bar type recipes – but all amazing! The first sixty pages are filled with ingredient, decorating and equipment information along with pages devoted to the “cookie academy” which delves into experiments with ingredient temperatures and variations for the chocolate chip cookie and the results of same. This will be your new cookie bible. See EVENTS.
Some of My Best Friends are Cookies: Recipes for Baking Perfection by Emelia Jackson will be published on October 31st in the UK and Australia and on November 5th in North America. Emelia’s first cookbook First, Cream the Butter and Sugar is a dream and I was so excited to receive an advance copy of this title this week. Emelia shares recipes for Chunky-Levain-style malted chocolate-chip cookies, Iced VoVoTM biscuits, Twixie TwixTM cookies, Passionfruit curd macadamia thumbprints and Cashew kourabiedes. So many new and exciting cookies to try!
Small Batch Cookies: Deliciously Easy Bakes for One to Six People by Edd Kimber is filled with recipes for those times you only want a few cookies (I’ve never had one of those times myself!). In Small Batch Bakes, Edd showed us that good things really can come in small packages. For this new book he wants to focus on cookies, probably the easiest – and arguably most popular – kind of baking there is. The recipes also include vegan cookies and cookies for those with allergies and intolerances. Look for a promotion coming soon on this great book. EVENTS
Bake from Scratch Magazine Special – Holiday Cookies 2024 is available now and is filled with cookie recipes from around the world. I love Bake from Scratch’s magazines and especially their holiday cookie special releases. This one is my all-time favorite as the cookies represent flavors from around the world. Cookie recipes include Basler brunsli, Italian meatball cookies, Orangenschnittli, and Raspberry Danish slices. We are indexing this magazine now.
I have added to our Calendar a month of special events taking place at Cookbooks and Convos in Philadelphia. Cookbooks and Convos is an exciting culinary experience brought to you by Sisterly Love Collective. Their mission is to empower and celebrate the talented female chefs and authors that make Philadelphia’s culinary scene thrive. Inspired by “The Book and The Cook” food festival from 1984 to 2007, Cookbooks & Convos carries forward this tradition with a fresh twist. From October 3rd to the 22nd the series will feature special dinners, author meet-and-greets, and engaging culinary events. Tickets for the events will be on their website soon.
