Toast Water – Noah Fecks and Victoria Granof

Toast Water is a culinary art book created by photographer, Noah Fecks, and renowned food stylist and author, Victoria Granof. Together they illustrated vintage recipes from Noah’s nana into a bound volume of inspired photographs and original text. The pages deliver a powerful collection of memories utilizing a minimalist design and the vibrant colors of nana’s era. 

The size, binding and cover of the book was inspired by children’s holy books. When I received it, the memories of eight years of incarceration at St. Mary’s School all flooded back. Even more interesting, is that the book was printed at a press that specializes in the manufacturing of Torahs. 
In Toast Water, nostalgia meets gorgeous photography and is more a beautiful trip down memory lane than a cookbook – although there are thirty-two recipes shared from nana’s cards, along with some clippings and tips. It truly is a phenomenal work of art.

Somehow Noah and Victoria made retro food cool and transformed a gelatinous salad into a striking photo. I’m thrilled to have this title in my collection and the authors would like two of you to win a copy as well.

    definitely italian meatballs–my grandparents were italian, and my grandmother would make my grandfather homemade pasta with gravy, beef, pork, and meatballs every single day without fail. I can see it now.

    My grandmother was Chinese, so…. none of these recipes were anything that she would have made! 🙁 However, if I had to pick one, I'd go with the Salad-Waldorf because whenever I spent the summer visiting her in Hong Kong, we would always go to fancy hotels to eat and this was one of the salads I remember ordering most often when I was with her!
