But when it comes to YouTube, Instagram or other internet sensations well let's put it this way "I am still… read more

Saveur sold to venture equity group
October 6, 2020 by Darcie
Years ago, Saveur Magazine was at least partly responsible for saving my job. I had a cantankerous boss who defined the terms micromanager and passive aggressive, and he went through assistants at lightning speed. At first I thought I was destined to join the others in the unemployment line because in my first week of work I made a mistake… read more

September 22, 2020 by Darcie
Once upon a time, sitting at a table for one might have drawn looks of pity from diners or wait staff, but after 2020, no one will give it a second thought for at least a generation. In fact, a few restaurants are actually going out of their way to accommodate solo dining, none more so that Ett, an Atlanta,… read more

Sur La Table to close nearly half of its stores
July 10, 2020 by Darcie
I have always appreciated dedicated kitchen stores. The tempting displays of cookware, gadgets, serving platters, niche foods, and tableware provide inspiration, even if some items are a bit too precious (does anyone really need to brand their initials on a steak?) or priced out of reach for us working class folk. I will never forget the sense of awe I… read more

Counting the days to GBBO
August 23, 2019 by Darcie
There are precious few bits of good news these days. The world's lungs are on fire, stock markets around the world have more ups and downs than an M.C. Everyone wants to be an Italian nonna

In this age of instant gratification with thirty second food videos or turning on lights with a voice command, it is comforting that cooks are drawn to preparing food like our grandmothers and great grandmothers did. There has been a resurgence of cookbooks that deliver such recipes: Heirloom Kitchen, Tortellini at Midnight and the upcoming release of Pasta Grannies (on the EYB… read more

While food lovers might want to 'stay out of politics', that position is becoming increasingly untenable. In the most recent volley in the trade dispute… read more
