IACP Cookbook Award winners 2024
September 26, 2024 by DarcieThe International Association of Culinary Professionals announced the winners of its 2024 Cookbook Awards (along with other food media and writing awards) this evening at its 2024 Summit held in Brooklyn, New York. In addition to this year’s winners, the IACP inducted three cookbooks into its Culinary Classics, which is a like a Hall of Fame for cookbooks. The IACP also presented Lifetime Achievement Awards to Dorie Greenspan and Phyllis Hoffman. The Trailblazers honored this evening included Kat Craddock of Saveur, Kerry Diamond of Cherry Bombe, Carrie Bachman of Carrie Bachman Public Relations (cookbook and gourmet product publicity), and Adjo Honsou, winner of Season 3 of PBS’s Great American Recipe.
Turning to the book awards, Sohla El-Waylly was the evening’s biggest winner, taking home the prize for the best Book of the Year for Start Here: Instructions for Becoming a Better Cook! Congratulations to Sohla for this well-deserved honor.
The winner of the second annual Toni Tipton-Martin award was Kat Lieu, author of Modern Asian Kitchen and Modern Asian Baking at Home and founder of a popular online baking group called Subtle Asian Baking (SAB).
The inductees into the Culinary Classics pantheon are:
- The Zuni Cafe Cookbook: A Compendium of Recipes and Cooking Lessons from San Francisco’s Beloved Restaurant by Judy Rodgers
- Tender: A Cook and His Vegetable Patch by Nigel Slater
- What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking by Abby Fisher

- General: Tenderheart: A Book About Vegetables and Unbreakable Family Bonds by Hetty McKinnon.
- Food photography and styling: Ever-Green Vietnamese: Super-Fresh Recipes, Starring Plants from Land and Sea by Andrea Nguyen
- Julia Child First Book Award: Made in Taiwan: Recipes and Stories from the Island Nation by Clarissa Wei
- Single subject: Mussels: An Homage in 50 Recipes by Sergio Herman
- Self-published: A Gift from the Heart, Johnny Carrabba To Great Food, Hard Work and the Family We Made Along the Way by Johnny Carrabba
- Wine, beer or spirits: The Book of Cocktail Ratios: The Surprising Simplicity of Classic Cocktails by Michael Ruhlman
