Cookbook clubs go mainstream

The rest of the world seems to be catching up to us in that Good Morning America just posted a story about cookbook clubs (the in-person kind, not the virtual ones). Many of our Members have participated in these clubs for years, with the club members all bringing different parts of a meal or specific recipes to create an amazing spread. I guess we can consider ourselves trendsetters, because these clubs seem to be everywhere now.

While you might think these clubs were the sole province of middle-aged women, the trend seems to be catching on with millennials and Gen Z with men and women both joining in on the fun. One person interviewed for this story said that she loved the fact that cooking clubs help save money, because you get to enjoy a multi-course meal, which would be expensive at a restaurant, for the price of one component and a little of your time.

I’m glad to see cookbook clubs thriving, because that means a continued strong market for cookbook sales. Although I don’t “need” any more books, I am continually inspired by new releases. I am partial to baking books, but the general cookbooks are the ones that have provided me with the most enjoyment over the last year or so because I had been in a cooking rut. The EYB Cookbook Club on Facebook pushed me to make more recipes from books than I normally would, and I’ve discovered new family favorite recipes that liven up our weeknight meals. Long live the cookbook club.
