The top cookbooks out this spring according to Epicurious
March 19, 2024 by DarcieAlthough Jenny does yeoman’s work in keeping us abreast of all the new releases every month, we still like to check in with other food sites about what they are excited by in the world of cookbooks. Sometimes they focus on different books or bring a fresh perspective that might benefit our Members. This time around we’re turning to Epicurious, which has announced their top 80 picks for releases coming out this spring (autumn for our Members in Australia and New Zealand).

The fact that there is a top 80 shows that even though it seems impossible for new books to amaze us based on how many have already been published, there are always fresh cookbooks that give us anticipatory goosebumps. While some of the books will be familiar to our Members, like Sabrina Ghayour’s Flavor (recently released US edition, don’t miss our US and Canada giveaway) or Zaytinya by José Andrés, there are plenty of others that might not be as recognizable. I’m intrigued by Make It Fancy: Cooking at Home With Sad Papi by Brandon Skier. It’s full of chef-y tips like how to make crispy potato crumbs that act like panko but taste like potato chips and how to amp up the flavor of brown butter with milk powder. There’s also a new book out next month by chef Rocco Dispirito called Everyday Delicious. We haven’t seen anything from the former TV chef in several years, so it’s interesting to see what he has been up to in the kitchen.
Since the Epicurious list includes books that are set for release in April and May and Jenny’s monthly review focuses on the present month, you might see some books on this list that she will cover soon. One of those could be Tim Anderson’s new book Microwave Meals: Delicious Recipes to Save Time, Effort and Energy. In Anderson’s expert hands, we might find new ways to love a kitchen appliance that many home cooks (myself included) use for only a couple of things. For me, that includes reheating leftovers and melting chocolate. What looks good to you on this list?
