Score a touchdown with great Super Bowl snacks

I get the feeling that this year’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers (happening Sunday, February 11) will be watched by a demographic that has never before cared about a football game. If you’re among the newbies who doesn’t know a first down from a touchdown, hardly anyone will question your football bonafides if your Super Bowl snack game is strong. That’s because the Super Bowl is the second biggest food event in the United States, ranking just behind Thanksgiving.

Even if you are less interested in the game than in celebrity spotting, it’s important that your Super Bowl party contains appropriate beverages, appetizers, and snacks. You still have a few days to get ready for game day, and we’re here to help you get in shape for it. We’ll start with Food Network’s 101 best Super Bowl snack recipes including a couple of football-shaped cheeseballs, and move on to Delish’s 100 favorite Super Bowl party foods. If your watch party is large, consider the Pioneer Woman’s recipes to feed a large Super Bowl crowd. Of course, you can also use the EYB Library to find the most popular canapés/hors d’oeuvre, snack, and appetizer recipes, including these Member favorites:

The super Bowl isn’t something that we watch at out house because we just don’t care about it (we’re more college football fans), however, I am still planning to make Ina’s fried onion dip (first time trying it) and a some sort of punch or drink to go with it for the occasion. We’ll eat it while we watch a movie after the kids go to bed!

Thanks Darcie for the inspiration. My group of friends are all doing Smitten Kitchen recipes for our Super Bowl party and that tarte soleil looks stunning. I’m also making her Chocolate walnut cookies.

I agree that the tart soleil is amazing, though I am befuddled regarding where the green in the finished twists comes from.

Superbowl is not happening in this house TG. And the more I hear about the consequences of American football, the more I wonder why it is celebrated.

It’s not listed in the ingredients (which have dried oregano with the option of fresh oregano, thyme or rosemary) but Deb says in the headnote “BTW, I added 1 tablespoon parsley leaves to my filling for color, but as it is barely noticeable and added little flavor, you can absolutely skip it.” She also seems to have sprinkled some chopped parsley on top for the photo, also not in the recipe.

Go ‘Niners! It will be a big day here in the Bay Area. Traditionally we have chili, cornbread, corn chips and some dips. Won’t be a big crowd, but it is always fun.

I feel like I’m missing a great opportunity to make and eat snack foods all day, but our family has never done Super Bowl. Maybe we should rethink?

I used to be a big, big Niner fan in the 80’s into 90’s, but not so much anymore. So, no special cooking for me. It is going to be very quiet on the street around here during the game and good time for walks instead. Also good day to go to Disneyland.

That Tarte Soleil is absolutely stunning. I may have to attend a Super Bowl party just so I can bring it! Though I am not a Feta fan, so I’d need to find another tapenade compatible dip.
