Fortnum & Mason winners

On May 11, food and drink celebrities gathered at The Royal Exchange in London to fete winners of the Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards. These prestigious annual awards celebrate the achievements of the UK’s current and emerging food writers, publishers, photographers, broadcasters, and personalities.

The ceremony was presented by Andi Oliver, alongside celebrated chef and Awards judging panel chair, Angela Hartnett OBE. The audience was filled with culinary stars like Yotam Ottolenghi, Dame Mary Berry, Si King and Dave Myers (aka The Hairy Bikers), Matt Tebbutt, Asma Khan, Rick Stein, Ravneet Gill, Stanley Tucci and Claudia Roden.

Writer Felicity Cloake took home the prize for Food Book of the Year with Red Sauce Brown Sauce, which chronicles her bicycle trek around Britain on a quest for the best breakfasts in the land. Breadsong, part memoir and part cookbook written by father and daughter Al & Kitty Tait, won Debut Food Book.

A Fortnum’s Special Award went to Professor Tim Spector for Food for Life: The New Science of Eating Well, which “draws on a decade of cutting-edge research to provide an empowering and insightful guide to how we should eat for our health and for the health of the planet.” London chef Jeremy Lee also won a Fortnum’s Special Award for COOKING: Simply and Well, for One or Many.

The winner of Cookery Book of the Year was Riaz Phillips for West Winds, a love song to traditional Caribbean cuisine and culture. Cynthia Shanmugalingam took home the honors for Debut Cookery Book with Rambutan, a vibrant dive into Sri Lankan food. The Drink Book of the Year was Tom Morton’s Holy Waters and the Debut Drink Book award went to Wild Brews by Jaega Wise. Si King and Dave Myers (aka The Hairy Bikers) were named Personalities of the Year.
