Cookbook lovers call the period between August and the end of November Cookbooktober and we are in full swing with many new and exciting titles to read about, buy and/or add to your Wishlist. Returning Ukrainian volunteers created the original book to assist others in recreating the beloved meals prepared by their Ukrainian host families. It is a special book with 100 recipes and photos.

Filled with a plethora of step-by-step technique photographs and Claudia’s wealth of information, this book is an impressive love letter to the craft of baking. You will find a delightful array of breads such as Prosciutto bread and North Fork focaccia as well as layer cakes including Devil’s food cake with Earl Grey cream) and Ginger stout layer cake with ermine frosting. But Claudia also includes cookies, muffins, doughnuts, pies, custards and European inspired desserts to round out this book that screams utter perfection on every page. Ottolenghi Test Kitchen: Extra Good Things by Noor Murad and Yotam Ottolenghi: Ottolenghi and his superteam are back, with flexible, flavour-packed dishes that all lend a little something to the next meal. It’s harissa butter on a roasted mushroom, then tossed with steamed veg or stuffed into a baked potato. It’s tamarind dressing on turmeric fried eggs, then drizzled over a steak the next day. This title is rounded off with a chapter on the ‘Dessert one basics’ for you to perfect and then adapt with your favourite flavour combinations, such as ‘one basic mousse’ transformed into coffee mousse with tahini fudge. This is playing it forward, Ottolenghi style, filling your cupboards with adaptable homemade ingredients to add some oomph to every mealtime. The Social Food: Home Cooking Inspired by the Flavors of the World by The Social Food: Here the style of e.e. cummings meets a cookbook with a melting pot of global dishes. My mom’s canned sardine Banh mi; Corn tortillas; and Chocolate verbena aquafaba mousse are a few examples of the dishes here. There is a photo of every recipe and the quirky style of font and layout is oddly pleasing.

Go-To Dinners by Ina Garten: Even America’s most-trusted and beloved home cook sometimes finds cooking stressful. To make life easy she relies on a repertoire of recipes that she knows will turn out perfectly every time. Cooking night after night during the pandemic inspired her to re-think the way she approached dinner, and the result is this collection of comforting and delicious recipes that you’ll love preparing and serving. You’ll find lots of freeze-ahead, make-ahead, prep-ahead, and simply assembled recipes so you, too, can make dinner a breeze. Events

Comfort Baking: Feel-Good Food to Savor and Share by Stephanie Wise: This gorgeous book is indeed pure comfort. Glazed lemon-raspberry loaf, Chocolate chip sheetpan pancake, London fog slice and bake cookies, and Frosted cookie butter brownies are just four of the many, many recipes in this book that will have you rushing to the kitchen to preheat the oven.

Milk Street: Cook What You Have: Make a Meal Out of Almost Anything by Christopher Kimball: Here, the Milk Street team solves the problem of making dinner, starting with what you have on hand in the kitchen. Focusing on two dozen key kitchen ingredients such as couscous, tomato paste, canned beans, lentils, breadcrumbs or yogurt, the 225 featured recipes will demonstrate the endless possibilities that can be fashioned from just the ingredients you already have at home.

Somebody Feed Phil the Book: The Official Companion Book with Photos, Stories, and Favorite Recipes from Around the World by Phil Rosenthal presents never-before-heard stories from every episode of the first four seasons of the Netflix series of the same name, along with more than sixty of viewers’ most requested recipes from acclaimed international chefs and local legends alike (including Rosenthal’s favorite sandwich finds from San Francisco to Tel Aviv), so you can replicate many of the dishes from the show right at home. Organized by season so you can shop at peak freshness and embrace new traditions, the dishes featured in Preppy Kitchen are inspired by well-loved staples updated with a touch of Kanell’s signature sophistication.

The Cookie Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum: As you will recall, the shipment of Rose’s bible devoted to cookies was delayed last year and in an effort to get the title out in prime cookie baking time moved to this month. The King Arthur Baking School: Lessons and Techniques from the Baker’s Classroom by King Arthur Baking Company: Baking is a craft, one that has been celebrated by King Arthur Baking Company for more than two centuries. Their Baking School is now a book bakers can rely on in their own kitchens. It reflects a curriculum that has been honed and refined over the years, with instructors who are experts not just at baking, but at teaching baking. The recipes, notes, instructive photographs, and thoughtfully organized chapters here reflect this depth of experience.
